Is the rumored feud between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle real? The narrative of clashing duchesses has been easy enough to spin, but one royal expert believes that the whole feud between them is made up.
The Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle feud rumors have
The headlines surrounding the royals have screamed of rumors about a feud between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle for quite a while. When the two sat next to each other at the Wimbledon tennis tournament this year, it looked like the rumors might have been finally shut down, but instead, the gossip continues.
Royal commentator Melanie Bromley, a correspondent for E! News, believes there’s a good reason why the feud rumors won’t die down — critics continue to find ways to speculate about the duchesses’ relationship.
She noted: “There is so much speculation about Kate and Meghan’s relationship. Even Instagram posts are being scrutinized.”
Bromley pointed to a social media post from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to wish Markle a happy birthday. On the surface, it seemed like a lovely way to celebrate her birthday and wish her well, but the post was met with criticism.
She shared: “The haters even criticized this, asking why they posted a picture with Kate in the middle, rather than posting a solo shot of Meghan. There honestly seems to be no way to make these pro-feud people happy.”
Bromley further explained her theory about the persistent feud rumors, noting: “I think this is a made up feud which plays into old sexist theories that women cannot get along with one other and that they have to be competitive with each other.”
She continued, noting, “Why can’t we see this as two women supporting each other? They have so much more in common than they have supposed differences. Think about it, they’re both mothers to young children. They are both married to men with really weird strange unusual lifetime jobs.”
Their body language is quite revealing
Despite all the rumors, when Middleton and Markle looked quite happy together at Wimbledon this year, their body language supported the idea that things are friendly between them. It’s hard to fake that for the cameras.
At the time, body language experts analyzed the duchesses closely and found no signs that there is any feud between them.
Body language expert Blanca Cobb noted that “there was no evidence of a feud at the event,” telling Cosmopolitan that “Meghan and Kate were enjoying each other’s company.”
Cobb pointed to the women having “genuine smiles,” sharing, “I’m also seeing that there’s nothing tense in their body-language — their hands and fingers are relaxed — which suggests that there’s no tension between them.”
In one photo taken at the event, Cobb noted, “Meghan’s head
is tilted a little bit to the right and Kate’s head is tilted a little bit to
the left, and when you lean towards something, you lean towards something you
like. It’s subconscious when this happens, so what that tells us is that
there’s a level of comfort between them and even though they’re not talking,
they’re still enjoying each other’s company.”
