Wimbledon is rapidly approaching and no one knows this better than Rafael Nadal. The King of Clay is relishing in his recent victory at the French Open but he is eager to take on the field yet again at the upcoming grass court major. Rafa is now a 12-time champion in men’s singles at Roland Garros. He has just one win, however, at Wimbledon.

In both 2008 and 2010, Nadal took the title in London. He may not be nearly as prolific as the likes of Roger Federer there, but we must wonder if Rafa’s recent success during the clay court season can translate into momentum for the second half of the year.

Following his French Open victory, Nadal told the ATP Tour media staff that he’s “fit and playing well.” He would go on to say that, “Winning at Roland Garros has definitely given me a boost in confidence going into Wimbledon.”

Nadal is eager to ‘see what happens’ at the upcoming major tournament. At Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic is arguably the player to beat. The defending champion mounted a comeback there last year and would end up winning the US Open and the 2019 Australian Open. Djokovic reached the semifinals at Roland Garros, but is clearly still playing brilliant tennis.

Is Nadal’s eagerness to get onto the grass courts of Wimbledon after another Roland Garros win enough to mount a title-run? We like his newfound confidence. The clay court season is Rafa’s and Rafa’s alone. He is truly the King of Clay. A competitive Nadal on grass only makes the rest of the men’s singles field that much better.
