BEN STOKES scored SIX runs in the most incredible fashion to force a super over – before England went on to win the Cricket World Cup in the most incredible fashion.
Needing nine runs off just three balls to win the tournament, Stokes hit for two runs.
But on his way back, and close to being run out, Stokes dived to the crease.
Incredibly, he deflected the ball with this bat and it went out for four runs – SIX in total.
England then had another two men run out in the final two balls leaving them on 241, the same total as New Zealand.
That forced an incredible match to a super over (explained below).
Stokes led England back in the game with an incredible innings, scoring 84 off 98 balls.
At one point, New Zealand had one hand on the trophy, skittling through the England top order and holding putting them in a hole at 86/4.
But Stokes and Jos Buttler – who reached 59 off 60 balls – put on a partnership of 110 to get the hosts back into the match.
With England in touching distance, they then lost three quick wickets going from 196/5 to 227/8.
But Stokes kept fighting and heading into the final over, England needed 15 runs from six balls.
With two dot balls, the crowd at Lord’s had almost given up.
Stokes then wallopped a GIANT six to give England a sniff, before the incredible deflection made it six more.
Two run outs in the final two balls saw England level New Zealand’s 241 and force the game to a super over.
England batted first with Stokes and Buttler back in the middle.
Both hit a four each as England posted 15 in their extra over.
James Neesham and Martin Guptill came in for New Zealand and Jofra Archer bowled a wide on the first ball to only add to the tension.
