Huntley village officials have approved a proposal for an indoor recreation facility seeking to locate in a business park.

The board on Thursday approved a special use permit for Elite Athletics and Sports and The Rink of Crystal Lake Inc. to operate Elite Athletics at 10611-10615 Wolf Drive in the Wolf Business Park, which is zoned as a manufacturing district.

Elite Athletics would be a state-of-the-art multi-athletics training facility focusing on community and scholastic youth sports, according to the business plan.

It would target individual athletes, sports teams and clubs looking for expert training in wrestling, football, baseball, boxing and martial arts, strength and conditioning, as well as people wanting to be healthy through “a fun, disciplined and results-driven program,” village documents show.

Membership prices run from $49.95 monthly for the basic plan up to $300 for a family plan for various programs with add-ons and upgrades, such as personal training and nutrition, according to the proposal.

The plan calls for recruiting 100 to 150 members within the first six months and sustaining more than 300 members annually. Potential clients include the Huntley Red Raiders youth wrestling program and surrounding wrestling and football programs looking for suitable facilities to train athletes.

The 7,500-square-foot proposed site previously was occupied by Mighty Moon Bounce House. Its gym layout offers several large open areas for training, including turf, weight/rack, and wrestling mats with heavy bags. The space also includes smaller offices for administrative use and as changing/locker rooms, documents show. The business would employ five workers, including professionally trained and certified instructors and nutrition experts and have experienced managers on-site.
