A cyclist who was killed in a collision with a car in Dublin last weekend was remembered by his wife as she said he was ‘the love of my life’.

Tributes were paid to David Steele, who has been named locally as the man who died in the collision which happened  on the R108 Road in St Margaret’s at approximately 11.45am on Saturday.

Mr Steele was cycling with pals when he was involved in the collision with a car, after which he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the tragic new, Mr Steele’s wife Karen posted a touching tribute to him on social media.

She said: ‘This is the hardest post I’ve ever had to write. Yesterday at 2pm my world was torn apart when two Gardai called to my house.

‘The love of my life, my husband my soulmate was out cycling with all his buddies and he was hit by a car and killed instantly.

‘He loved his cycling so much and died doing what he loved. My world will never be the same.

‘Absolutely heartbroken. My Ironman forever. The big strong man forever.’

Under the post, pals and other family members paid tribute to Mr Steele, as one person said: ‘Devastating Karen. Total shock and heartbreak 💔.

‘Chas was a great club mate, a great pal and all round top guy. Thinking of you and the time we all spent together.’

One more person wrote: ‘You were such a strong united couple. Always full of smiles, you both lived your best life and made the most amazing memories to always cherish.

‘You have amazing friends & family that will be by your side always. Love you. RIP David.’
